Scott Cupp (b. 1975)
As a designer in a mylar balloon manufacturer art department for many years in the past, Scott continues to search for creative and exciting ways to express himself. Kinetic mobile sculptures are his latest way to passionately explore new forms and concepts. This kinetic stabile mobile sculpture is constructed using steel sheet and wire and finished in matte enamel paints with its assembly of limbs and flat shapes balanced atop metal bases. Its inspiration springs from Scott's interest in the cosmos and the natural world, along with the various works of Alexander Calder, George Rickey, and Jerome Kirk, amongst others. With each component connected in precise equilibrium, the sculpture portrays the interaction between shapes and volumes in a harmonious way. Firmly anchored on its base, the undulating motion allows light and shadow to illuminate and darken its surfaces, playfully animating evolving perspectives within the space the kinetic sculpture inhabits.
